2012-2013

Marshall Benjamin, MD

Dear EVS Members and Colleagues:

Marshall Benjamin, MD, EVS President
Marshall Benjamin, MD
2012-2013 President
I look forward to seeing you at the Eastern Vascular Society’s 27th Annual Meeting that will be held at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, September 19-22, 2013.

The Program Committee, under the leadership of Dr. Patrick Stone, has put together an excellent program covering a wide range of topics for vascular and endovascular surgery that will be presented by a diverse panel of distinguished speakers. The annual meeting has been structured again to allow for accrual of self assessment CME credits.

The Young Surgeon’s Committee, co-chaired by Drs. Mark G. Davies and Nicholas J. Gargiulo, III, is conducting Mock Oral Examinations for our senior vascular residents, vascular fellows and new members who await the certifying examination. This Committee is also presenting a Young Surgeons Program with topics devoted to vascular surgery training, practice models, and “Your First Real Job” as well as Case Presentations.

The Issues Panel, chaired by Dr. Jae Cho, will address the Future of Vascular Surgery: Evolution or Preservation of the Species? and will be moderated by Dr. Robert Rhee. It will include talks by Dr. R. Clement Darling, III, of the Vascular Group, Albany Medical Center Hospital; Dr. Michael C. Dalsing of Indiana University Medical School; Dr. Joseph E. Bavaria of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center; and Dr. Frank J. Veith of New York University and the Cleveland Clinic. The Diversity and Women in Vascular Surgery Committee will host a lunch panel addressing negotiation skills and conflict resolution. The Honorary Lecture will be given this year by Dr. Richard H. Dean of Wake Forest University, who will speak about Renovascular Disease: A 40-Year Memoir of Study.

The annual meeting program has been planned so we can take advantage of the many activities that the Greenbrier offers. Our Social Programs include a Welcome Reception on Thursday evening and a President’s Reception and Banquet on Saturday evening. I hope you will also join us at the Kim Hansen Fly Fishing Tournament as well as at the golf and tennis tournaments.

I appreciate our industry partners for their continued support of our meeting. Please visit their exhibits during the annual meeting and thank them for their generosity.

I look forward to welcoming you all to the Greenbrier in September.

Marshall Benjamin, MD
President
